My Experience Combining Work with Travel for 12 Days in Cornwall & Devon
Plus tips if you've planning on an attempt to work remotely while travelling
From the 18th - 29th September, I uprooted myself, my partner and my dog and worked remotely from Cornwall and Devon (+ one night in Somerset). Following two successful trips earlier this summer that combined work with pleasure (Cornwall and Switzerland), I wanted to try again but this time prioritise work. I envisoned booking a handful of shoots, editing in the evenings and spending a couple of hours each day writing. The idea was to temporarily relocate ourselves to one of our favourite parts of the country, where we could spend our downtime walking on the cliffs and swimming in tranquil coves. I’d get tons of work done and make money while travelling around. It didn’t work out quite as I had planned, but it is definitely something I will be doing again.
Serendipitously, almost as soon as I had got the idea into my head, I was approached by the owners of a group of cottages in north Cornwall who booked me in for a 1.5 day shoot mid-September. This then became the foundation of planning the trip: I planned a 12 night road trip circling around Cornwall, subsequently booking two further shoots in Devon for the last few days before heading home. I’m going to write a separate newsletter sharing exactly where we stayed and all my Cornwall recommendations, so I won’t repeat myself here with all the nitty gritty details, but a few other exciting opportunities fell into place and everything seemed to be going to plan.
