Anecdotes from Almost Three Weeks in Greece
Everywhere I stayed, ate & explored during my (partially) solo trip back in October
Back in October I spent (almost) three weeks travelling around Greece. With friends to begin with and then on my own for eleven days. The trip was originally planned as a long weekend on the Athens coast with two friends; I then decided to stay a little longer with one of my friends, hopping over to Hydra and then spending 24 hours together in Athens. When we booked our flights, I didn’t book a return, manifesting finding work over there. This worked out in my favour, and I ended up staying twice as long as I originally anticipated, fitting in a couple of shoots and a hotel review. Following my ten-day solo trip around the Cyclades last spring, I’d been itching to spend more time on my own exploring Greece, and this was the perfect opportunity.
One reason it’s taken me so long to write this newsletter (other than constantly getting distracted) is that thinking back over this trip still feels so bittersweet. I’m glad to be back home and am fully embracing cosy season, but I had such a wonderful time travelling solo around Greece that I can’t help wishing I was still there. Regardless, I’m pulling myself together and am determined to publish this before Christmas — I can’t start writing about next year’s travel plans and hotel wish list until I’ve finished writing about this year’s adventures.
I’m popping this behind a paywall for my paid subscribers as it’s taken a long time to write, and I also don’t like sharing travel recommendations to absolutely everyone who might stumble upon my Substack. I want to share where I stayed, where I ate, the places I visited etc., but I also worry about contributing to overtourism. Some of the places I share below I did mention on my Instagram Stories from Greece, however, if you’d prefer to skip through those.
