Oh they really were! The water is such a beautiful hue of turquoise there, I think because it originates in the snow and glaciers before it runs down the mountains into the lakes.
Really enjoyed this, thank you! Following discussion in the comments under A Considered Space's recent travel post, I'm taking your advice and going to Sweden this summer. We are travelling there by campervan and having never done so before I'd love to know - what is something that you think is unexpectedly essential for making the trip the best it can be? Luxury item or otherwise!
Advice for camper van trips: eye mask in case you don’t have blinds on all the windows; warm jumper and socks for sitting outside the van at night; pack insect repellent & a tick remover just in case; and a head torch for wandering around at night.
I think the same kind of area, plus a couple of days with friends in Stockholm. But we'll have a couple of weeks so will keep our plans relatively loose and see how we get on. Your blog post is very inspiring, thank you!
And thanks re campervan tips - will keep an eye out for your longer post too.
What a dreamy way to explore Switzerland! The waters you swam in sound so scenic and invigorating.

That sounds like my dream trip, Sweden by camper van!
Where in Sweden are you going? I’ve travelled around Skäne and the west coast/lakes north of Gothenburg. I wrote more about my trip to Västra Götaland on my blog: https://www.fieldandnest.com/journal/a-swedish-roadtrip-through-vstra-gtaland
